Dr. Asit Kumar Chakraborty was born in a remote village named Ekbalpur in Chondrakona Thana and Ghatal Subdivision, District of Midnapore, West Bengal. He lost parents in childhood and his elder brother Ranajit Chakraborty and eldest sister-in-law Kamala Chakraborty raised him. He obtained a Master's in Biochemistry from Calcutta University in 1982 and obtained a PhD in Biochemistry in 1990 from the same university. Dr Chakraborty's postdoctoral research was completed a he University of California at Berkeley (Virus Laboratory under Prof. Peter Duesberg) and Creighton University (Creighton Cancer Center under Dr Clague Hodgson). He was a visiting scientist at The John Hopkins University School of Medicine (Clinical pharmacology under Dr. Theresa Shapiro), CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (Molecular Parasitology Lab under Dr. Hemanta Majumder) and G. B. Pant Hospital (Gastroenterology Department under Dr. Shiv Sarin). Presently , he is Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Oriental Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry, Vidyasagar University, India. He published 75 papers in reputed journals and has still working on Phyto-Antibiotics against XDR-Bacteria. He is survived by wife Anjana (Chatterjee) Chakraborty and his elder daughter Anindita (Chakraborty) Banerjee and son-in-law Arkaprava Banerjee and their beautiful youngest daughter Anupama Chakraborty. Dr Asit is a vivid reader of NCBI SARS-CoV-2 database (USA) and has published twenty papers in the new open-access journals on COVID-19 .
