Basic Information
Dr. Priya Gupta, B.A., LL.B., LL.M., Ph.D. in Law, specializes in International Law and Human Rights with a special focus on displaced populations around the world. She has dedicated about a decade to the study of the issues of West Pakistan Refugees residing in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir after the partition of India in 1947 in comparison to the treatment meted out to the other displaced populations who had migrated to Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the partition of India. The West Pakistan Refugees lived an ignominious existence in Jammu and Kashmir for over seven decades because of the existence of contentious provisions of now repealed Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution. She has presented the findings of her studies on displacements in the nation and international seminars and conferences and published the same in journals and other publications of repute. A gold Medallist in her Masters in Law (LL.M.), she has also been an outstanding debater at national and state level as well. She is a protagonist of human rights with special reference to the issues of women, displaced persons, and other marginalised sections of society. She has campaigned extensively for the awareness of their issues in several presentations and talk shows on television and All India Radio.
