This book is specially designed to introduce students to the process of scientific research in the social sciences, business, education, public health, and other related disciplines. This book is based on our lecture materials developed over a decade of teaching the class on Research Methods at the University. The target audience for this book includes students of BBA, B. Com, MBA, M,Com, M. junior researchers, teachers who are doing preparation doe NET and GSET exam and professors teaching courses on research methods, although senior researchers can also use this book as a handy and compact reference.
This book is not just about “research methods” but about the entire “research process” from start to end. Research method is only one phase in that research process, and possibly the easiest and most structured one. In our experience, most students become fairly competent at research methods, but struggle to generate interesting or useful research questions or build scientific theories. By keeping this point in mind, we have developed entire chapters such as “Imagine and Think as Researcher”.
While writing the book, I decided to focus only on essential concepts. This book is designed to complement those readings by summarizing all important concepts in one compact volume with easy and understandable language.
The book is structured into 6 chapters. First chapter covers fundamental concepts of Research Methodology like research Design, Variables, various Types of Research, Research Process etc. chapter Two covers various methods of Data collection with their merits and demerits. Chapter Three is focusing on various Sampling Techniques as well as different types of attitudes and basic scale which are generally used while preparing questionnaire, Chapter Four covers process of questionnaire Design and Data Preparation like editing, coding, cleaning of Data. Chapter five is useful for analyzing Data and making conclusion of research work. In Chapter six, few multiple-Choice Questions are included for students for various Exam point of view.
Lastly, This book introduces quantitative research in various disciplines. The whole research process is introduced, from asking a research question to analysis and reporting of the data. The main focus, however, is the analysis of data.
