ESSENCE OF SPECTROSCOPY

Spectroscopy occupies the pride of place among the analytical techniques and is an essential part of Chemistry, Environmental Science and Biological Science curricula worldwide. The aim of this book is to introduce the fundamental concepts of Spectroscopy in a clear and lucid manner. The chapters cover in detail the basic principles of Chemical analysis, basic instrumentation in Spectroscopy, UV-VIS, IR, FT-IR, Raman, Florescence Spectroscopy, NMR, ESR and Mass spectrometry. Atomic emission spectroscopy and Atomic absorption spectroscopy are widely used for the detection and quantitative estimation of metals in a variety of matrices and find applications in several areas including environmental analysis. Turbidimetry and Nephelometry, based on the scattering of light are also discussed in detail.

While discussing any technique, a step- by- step approach has been adopted starting with the theoretical principles, instrumentation and applications with special reference to industrial applications. Several solved numerical problems have been included along with relevant questions and numerical problems at the end of each chapter. A large number of IR and NMR spectra have also been included. A bibliography of useful reference books has been included to motivate the readers to undertake further studies in the subject.

The book will be useful to BSc and MSc students of Indian universities as also students pursuing equivalent studies in foreign universities. Researchers and industry chemists using Spectroscopic techniques will also find the book useful especially the industrial applications.
