PERFORMANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY OF MICROFINANCE IN LOWER BRAHMAPUTRA VALLEY OF ASSAM

This book is an outcome of my doctoral work on performance and sustainability of SHG Bank Linkage Program in Assam. The study focuses on how the financial bottleneck in developing countries has helped in making the concept of microfinance successful and got a blooming ground in India. Two prominent microfinance programs are working in favour of the poor in India viz. SHG Bank Linkage Program (SBLP) and Micro- Finance Institution (MFI) Program. SBLP model gained good reputation over time due to low interest rate against loan amount and transparency from the bank’s side at the time of deposit and credit linking. Now SBLP has become world’s most popular microfinance program on the basis of the reputation it has built over the course of time. Though there is a positive growth of this program in all regions of the nation, its pace of progress is not same in all places.
