Cardiovascular and Respiratory Physiotherapy: Essential MCQs for Success

Every book begins with a journey and this one is no exception. The inspiration of this work or rather such book on MCQs came from the need- many years ago..! When I gave entrance exam for M.PT which was conducted for the 1st time in the state of Gujarat, there were very few books available on MCQs in the market then. I had to seek help for books from fellows in other Medical specialty. This incidence sow the seeds of writing a book on MCQs, but it was at a too primitive level. The need was certain, but execution was a task which took time, but now finally it’s there. Better late than never!! The motivation for this work came from a desire to explore Cardiovascular and respiratory physiotherapy- a subject that has fascinated me for years and is so close to my heart. In my academic career of more than 22 years, I have realized that students are too apprehensive for the subject. Maybe they panic with its practical implications of which majorly lies in dealing with critically ill patients & working in post-operative wards & ICUs. As I delved deeper into it, I realized that there is a gap in the way, the subject is approached. I felt compelled to share my findings with a broader audience. The Practical implications of the subject is even more exciting. It requires smart work. Working with “Adrenaline Rush” at most of the time, is in a way unique and satisfactory experience. Throughout this work, my goal has been to “test your gray matter". If your basics are clear & strong, you are more confident& less anxious. It is rightly said- “when you understand the game, you don’t panic". Understanding can help to navigate unexplained twists & challenges. Whether you are novice or an expert in this subject, I hope this book will offer something new & valuable. More importantly, the challenge imposed on the gray matter will definitely open the “collateral of intelligence”. MCQs are one way of knowledge assessment which is widely used, well established and reliable method though it has it’s own merits & demerits. MCQs are composed of 2 parts: a stem which identifies the question & a set of possible answers which contain ‘the best answer’s & a number of distractors which are plausible but are incorrect answers to the question. It’s limitation to assess a student’s low order thinking skills (LOTS) like remembering & Understanding can be overcome by adding variety to questions like – recall, interpretive, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation etc. types.
