Science and technology have always been fundamental drivers of human progress and societal transformation. Indian scientists have made remarkable contributions in the different fields of natural and applied sciences in modern times. Scientists like Charak and Susrutha in medical sciences, Aryabhata and Bhaskaracharya in mathematical sciences, Nagarjuna and Kanad in chemical sciences are pioneers and inspire generations. The way Indian scientists responded to the Covid-19 pandemic to develop a vaccine in limited time and with limited resources is a vibrant example of our spirit of practising science for the welfare of society. This spirit is also reflected in the National Education Policy 2020.

Professor Freeman J. Dyso, of the Institute of Advanced Studies, Princeton, in his book "Infinite in all Directions", wrote: "Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of Life, it is perhaps the greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of civilization, of Arts and of Sciences. Technology continues to grow to liberate mankind from constraints of the past. The most revolutionary aspect of technology is its mobility. Anybody can learn it. It jumps easily over barriers of race and language. And its mobility is still increasing.

In the twenty-first century, the rapid advancement of scientific knowledge and technological innovation has created unprecedented opportunities to address some of the most pressing global challenges, including climate change, energy sustainability, healthcare, environmental protection, and digital transformation. These complex issues cannot be addressed by a single discipline alone; rather, they require collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches that integrate knowledge from diverse fields of science and technology.
