The purpose of compiling this book entitled “Understanding Dynamics of Man–Animal Conflict in Kashmir” is to offer a comprehensive, field-based, and scientifically informed account of the complex and increasing interactions between humans and wildlife in the Kashmir Valley from a veterinarian’s perspective. The book systematically presents statistical data on man–animal conflict incidents across districts, identifies major conflict hotspots, and traces the historical pattern of such encounters in the region. It examines the components and factors that lead to human–wildlife conflict, including ecological changes, habitat disturbance, and the resurgence of wild animals outside their natural habitats. A significant focus is placed on the identification of wild animals during conflict situations and on addressing emergencies involving injured, trapped, or distressed wildlife through appropriate veterinary and rescue management.
