Dr Kahnu Charan Dhir is a familiar name in the field of disaster management in India. To his credit, he has authored four books on disasters of Odisha Beyond Disaster; Story of a Tornado in India; Cyclones in Orissa; and Floods in Orissa. Dr Dhir, an administrator by profession has done his M.A. and M.Phil in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Ph D in Sociology from Utkal University, Odisha.
