Dr. Puspita Das is working as Professor and Head, Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, College of Community Science, Tura, Meghalaya, Central Agricultural University. She has a brilliant academic career, a proficiency holder from Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore and obtained Ph.D from Utkal University. In her total service experience of 39 years, she has dedicated 15 years working in Meghalaya in different capacities. She has also acted as Dean, College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University for more than 5 years. She is recipient of 6 awards of National and International repute for excellence in research, outstanding contribution in Extension and administration and for consistent superior performance in Extension education including Outstanding Scientist Award and Women Scientist Award Recently, she has received the North East Woman Leader award from the World Women Leader Congress. She has been associated with many research projects related to the area of social sector and agriculture sector development. She is a gender trainer for the officers/stakeholders in agriculture and allied sectors. Her books Gender in Agricultural Development', 'Gender Analysis in Agriculture-Grass root Realities", "Garo Women of Meghalaya in Agriculture, Women Empowerment and Micro Finance emphasises gender issues in agriculture and provide reading materials for extension professionals, students and researchers on women empowerment as reference books. Her book "The Nokmas' (Village Headman) and 'Tribal Agriculture of Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India' gives a brief idea on the role of leaders in agriculture in general and in Meghalaya in particular. Her book "Self Help Groups-Problems, Opportunities and Challenges Ahead" is very popular among the students and researchers as it encompasses the weakness and strength, opportunities and challenges of women Self-Help Groups. The present book "Ancient Women in Contemporary Canvas will be another feather in her cap .
