Shahid Iqbal Choudhary (IAS (Indian Administrative Services) is an accomplished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and author. Born in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Shahid belongs to the 2009 batch of the IAS from the Jammu and Kashmir cadre. He has held several prestigious positions throughout his career, showcasing his dedication to public service and his commitment to fostering positive change in society. Dr. Shahid's journey in civil services began when he secured an impressive All India Rank 51 in the UPSC's Civil Services Examination for the year 2008. He holds the distinction of being the first Muslim from the Jammu region and the first Gujjar from Jammu and Kashmir to enter the Indian Administrative Service as a direct recruit from the IAS. Education has been a cornerstone of Dr. Shahid's professional growth. He pursued his graduation in BVSc & A.H from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. He went on to complete his post-graduation in MSc Natural Resource Management from FRI University in Dehradun. Shahid's academic background in these fields has equipped him with valuable insights into agricultural sciences and the sustainable management of natural resources. Before joining the IAS, Shahid qualified for the Indian Forest Service in 2005 and served as a forest officer in the picturesque Kashmir valley. His experience in this role further strengthened his understanding of environmental conservation and the importance of sustainable development. Throughout his distinguished career, Shahid has held various influential positions. He has served as the District Development Commissioner/District Magistrate (DM) in several districts, including Srinagar, Rajouri, Bandipora, Udhampur, Kathua, and Reasi. Additionally, he has taken up responsibilities as the Additional Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office of Jammu and Kashmir, Director of Information & PR, and Managing Director of J&K Tourism Development Corporation. Shahid has also worked as the Special Officer Relief & Reconstruction Leh and Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Nowshera. Presently, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary holds the position of Administrative Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of J&K Mission Youth. He plays a vital role in overseeing the implementation of various development programs and initiatives aimed at uplifting tribal communities and promoting youth empowerment and skill development. Dr. Shahid's exceptional contributions and achievements have been recognized with several national awards. He has received the National Award for Best Electoral Conduct from the Election Commission of India, National Awards for e-Governance presented by the Ministry of Personnel, Government of India, and the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2022 presented under the category: Innovation-State to the Team- “Mission Youth” of Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, he was honoured with the National Award on Women Empowerment from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the category of "Enabling Girl Child Education" on International Women's Day in 2018. His dedication to education was also acknowledged with the National Award for Exceptional Contribution in the Education sector in 2019. Besides his administrative endeavours, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary is an author who has shared his insights and experiences through his writings.
