Gender discrimination is not something which suddenly appears. It starts form the birth of a girl till her death. She is a victim of poor child care, devoid of education, dependent, victim of malnutrition, physical, emotional, and economic violence and a victim of dowry death. other socio-cultural factors make her position more vulnerable.

During recent years efforts has been made to improve the condition of women. Many international instruments are implemented. Most of the countries have ratified these instruments.

With UDHR giving education a status of Basic Human Right, a journey for empowerment of women begins. India also by the 86th Constitutional Amendment is now giving free and compulsory education to children. it paves new rights for those girls who could not get education due to economic restrictions in family.
