Dr. N.V. Sujathkumar is presently working as the Dean in-charge of the Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, which is one of the constituent colleges of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalaithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU), Nagapattinam, India. He has 33 years of experience in teaching, research and extension programmes. In the discipline of fisheries extension, he has supervised eight MFSc students and is currently guiding two Ph.D., scholars. He had led many research and extension projects totalling more than Rs. 255 lakhs. He has organised and led many on-campus and off-campus training programmes in the field of fisheries. At the University of Stirling in Scotland, he received advanced training in Extension Teaching Methods and Aids, as well as an e-learning training programme at Michigan State University in the United States of America. He has also presented numerous research papers at national and international conferences. He was involved in the creation of 27 e-courses in the field of fisheries, two of which he created himself. In addition, he has also published numerous research and extension papers in national and international journals. He played a key role in the development of this university's online UG and PG counselling admission portals, as as well as serving as a website administrator of TNJFU.
