Dr. Prasnjit Mukherjee son of Shayama Pado Mukherjee was born in Lohardaga, a small town of Jharkhand in 1969. He did Honors and Masters in Botany from Ranchi College, Ranchi. He obtained a Ph.D. in 2001 under the supervision of veteran plant Taxonomist Dr. T.K.Ghosh, Retd. University Professor, University Department of Botany, Ranchi University, Ranchi. He is credited to be the second man in Jharkhand to obtain a D.Sc. degree in Botany under the able supervision of Prof.(Dr.) Jyoti Kumar, University Professor, University Department of Botany, Ranchi University, Ranchi. He is the pioneer in the field of research on aquatic angiosperm plants in Jharkhand. He is the past sectional recorder of environment science section in 98th and 99th session of Indian Science Congress and Councillor of the Indian Botanical Society. He has published around 60 research articles in different national and International journals. He has presented papers and participated in more than 100 seminars and conferences across the country. Besides he has received several awards of National and International repute. He is a promising plant taxonomist of Jharkhand. Presently he is working as Head, Department of Botany, K.K.M. College, Pakur. Dr. Mukherjee has produced two Ph.D. students
