Basic Information

Dr. Puspita Das, a professor by designation is heading the Dept. of Extension Education and Communication Management in College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University, Tura, Meghalaya. Born on 16th January, 1961, she joined job in the year 1984 and worked in different capacities. She has a brilliant academic carrier, and is a proficiency holder from Avinashlingam University, Coimbatore and PhD from Utkal University. In her total service experience of 40 years, she has dedicated 16 years to Northeastern states, in areas of Teaching, Research and Extension and she has contributed exceptionally in the field of Extension and her unwavering dedication to empower rural communities in the North East and other parts of India in general and development of tribal women in particular She is a national level Gender Trainer and imparted training on Gender Issues in different states of country which is a unique contribution for the society as well as for Women of India. She has published the books like “Gender in Agricultural Development”, “Gender Analysis in Agriculture – Grassroot Realities” which are referred by the students, researchers, academicians and functionaries of rural development who acts as change agents in the society. Her books, “Women Empowerment and Microfinance” , “ Garo Women of Meghalaya in Agriculture” based on research studies emphasizes gender issues in Agriculture and provide reading materials for women, extension professionals, students and researchers on women empowerment as reference books. Her books, “The Nokmas” (Village Headman) and “Tribal Agriculture of Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India” give a brief idea on the role of leaders in agriculture in general and in Meghalaya in particular. Her book “Self Help Groups- Problems, Opportunities and Challenges Ahead” is a boon for women groups, NGOs, CBOs and other development stakeholders of the society as it encompasses the weakness and strength, opportunities and challenges of women Self-Help Groups. As a multi-talented author, she has tried to revisioned mythological characters and published the edited book “Ancient Women in Contemporary Canvas” which is another feather in her cap which inspires Women in society to be strong decision maker. Presently she is also shouldering the responsibility of Unit Coordinator, All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture for Tura centre, Meghalaya. In total she has guided 11 students, handled 11 research projects in state level as well as national level, published 8 books, 8 book chapters, 55 research articles, 56 popular articles besides many radio and television talks in different centres of Orissa and Meghalaya. Dr. Das is recipient of 8 awards of Regional, National and International repute for Excellence in research, outstanding contribution in Extension and administration and for consistent superior performance in Extension education including outstanding Scientist Award, Women Scientist Award, North East Women Leader Award, Best Alumni Award of her school and Global Women Leaders Award by World Women Leadership Congress.
