Basic Information

Dr K Vasu Born in Puthur, a remote village in the Malabar region of Kerala (09-09-1947- ), migrated to the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu at a young age. Had the elementary education at Kilkavatti, near Muthorai, close to Ooty, under the Gell Memorial School Management, Fern Hill. High schooling was at St. Joseph's in Ooty (1959-65), continued for graduation at Government Arts College, Ooty affiliated to the University of Madras (1965-69) in chemistry. Joined for Postgraduation at the University of Roorkee (1977-79) and for the doctoral programme at the Indian Agricultural Reseach Institute (IARI), New Delhi (1979-83). Entered into service as a Senior Scientific Assistant (Laboratory), at Central Soil Conservation Research, Demonstration and Training Institute - Regional Centre, Ooty under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) (1970-77). After completing the research programme at IARI, joined the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode, Kerala, an R&D Centre on water under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technologu and Environment (KSCSTE), continued in service from 1983 to 2007 and retired in 2007. During the service at CWRDM, had training visits to Utah State University in Logan, USA andWallac in Turku, Finland. Also travelled to IAEA as part of IAEA's RCA programme to attend the Research Committee meetings. Coordinated with a few universities in South India under a DST(Government of India) project on the application of stable and radioactive isotopes based techniques to water resources programmes. As a leader of a small group of scientists, technical and other supporting staff, assisted CWRDM Management to establish a Stable and Radioactive Isotope Facility at the Centre with the support of Department of Science and Technology (Government of India) and technical support of experts of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. Took efforts to carry the nuclear techniques applicable to water resources programmes to the faculty and research scholars working in the leading technical institutes in the country. Represented CWRDM as a member in a few Expert Committees, constituted to address to the issues related soil, water and environment problems.
