The anthropogenic influences on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning have a great impact resulting a significant changes in land and resource sustainability. Restoration of degraded area by biological means for overall ecological improvement in an old practice. Opencast mining activities alter the habit by removing existing vegetation which affects the ecological services and structure and function of ecosystem. Due to unfavorable physical structure and chemical properties of degraded lands, vegetation development on the waste takes a very long time. The restoration ecology is receiving increasing attention row a days.

In this first edition of the Book untitled “Ecological study of degraded habitats in Chromite mining Region of Sukinda Odisha.” Deals with the documentation of species present at eight selected study sites of two Chromite mines of Sukinda Chromite mining region. The structural paramerfers like frequency, density, abundance, IVI, basal area, concentration of dominance, species diversity, and distribution pattern and community co-efficient existing flora of reclaimed sites were estimated. The analysis of physical and chemical properties of soil and water quality was carried out.
