A hand book on Postgraduate Entrance Examination in Physiotherapy is designed to meet the needs of undergraduate, graduate, post graduate and Postdoctoral Physiotherapy students preparing for their internal, preliminary, terminal, university and competitive entrance exams etc.
Historically, E.L. Thorndike developed an early multiple choice test but Frederick J. Kelly was the first to use such items as part of a large scale assessment in 1915. Since then, it has become one of the popular formats of educational testing.
Assessment is a critical component of instruction; if it is used properly then it can aid in accomplishing key curricular goals. Multiple choice questions or multiple choice format of question or the one best answer question has become one of widely used, well-established, reliable method of assessing knowledge for various Physiotherapy examinations conducted in Physiotherapy core subjects. Like other methods of assessment, they have their own strengths and weaknesses.
There is controversy about the use of number-right as opposed to negative marking but, provided that the candidates know which marking system is being used, either method is satisfactory. The pass standard should be determined using criterion-based rather than norm-based referencing. Multiple choice questions could be used to validate continuing education and professional development from reading. As long as there is a need to test knowledge of physiotherapy undergraduate and post graduate students, multiple choice questions will have a part to play, but only as one component of the assessment of clinical competence.
Today, there is hardly any book pertaining to essential MCQs in Physiotherapy subjects and hence with an objective of helping Physiotherapy students and qualified Physiotherapists, the idea of writing a book about this came to my mind. I have tried to cover these questions in different chapters covering various areas of Physiotherapy including research and rehabilitation with questions whose complexity is varying. Purposefully, I didn’t cover the areas of conflicting information. Nevertheless, I know that Physiotherapy subjects are vast and I have tried to cover maximum key areas. I recommend that to gather more extensive information, you should read other books on these subjects as well.
I hope this book will be helpful and may serve an aid to for quick revision.
