During the last three decades migration from Kerala to the Middle East has taken place in a significant scale. According to the latest information one out of every six households working in Middle East, and it is evident that the incidence of migration is the highest among the Muslims. In recent years, the employment opportunities in Middle East have been on a decline. Further demand has shifted from unskilled to professional labour force. Because of this in labour demand and the increase in supply of labourers from other countries, there has been large-scale return migration from Middle East. Though the migration of women to the Gulf countries has been of smaller magnitude, compared to men, they still constitute a sizeable number. Though many of them has gone to the Middle East for employment in skilled and unskilled jobs, these women migrants have been returning to the state after some years stay in Gulf compared to men the women migrants and returnees have to face much more severe problems as women is the most exploited creature in the world. They have to face much more severe problems arising out of the changing socio-economic and family environment in which they have to struggle for their day-today life. Though there have been a number of studies on return migrants, no systematic attempt has been made so far to the  changing roles of these migrant and returnee women migrants and the coping strategies they have adopted to survive these situations. The present study is an attempt in this direction. This study will be carried out specifically in the context of Muslim women who are socially and educationally backward compared to other communities. Because of this backwardness gulf migrant and returned Muslim women have to face more problems than other community migrants and returnees.
