The present book entitled “Pharmaceutics-I” is designed for B. Pharmacy first semester students. The contents of the book are kept much simple keeping in view the level and aspiration of first semester students at the undergraduate level. It is scripted in accordance with the first semester syllabus recently issued by the Pharmacy Council of India.

Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with the process of turning a new chemical entity (NCE) in to a dosage form (medication) to be used safely and effectively by the patients. It is also defined as the branch of pharmacy that “Converts drug in to a medicine”.

This book comprises of five units. Some practice questions are given at the end of each unit for the benefit of the students. The book is designed to impart a fundamental knowledge on the preparatory pharmacy with arts and science of preparing the different conventional dosage forms. After reading this book a student will be able to: (a) Know the history of profession of pharmacy, (b) Understand the basics of different dosage forms, pharmaceutical incompatibilities and pharmaceutical calculations, (c) Understand the professional way of handling the prescription, (d) Preparation of various conventional dosage forms. Apart from the theoretical concepts on conventional dosage forms, few classical examples of different type of dosage forms have also been included along with methods of preparation to perform in the laboratory.
