This book contributes to demonstrate how to apply the applications of probability techniques to gain insight into real life, everyday statistical problems and situations. The book approach ultimately results in an intuitive understanding of statistical procedures and strategies most often used by practicing engineers. This book has been written for an introductory course in statistics or in probability and statistics for students in engineering, mathematics, statistics, and the natural sciences. The mathematics and statistics prerequisites for this book are modest. It is assumed that the reader has had basic knowledge in statistics. No prior knowledge of probability and/or statistics is assumed. Our aim is to provide a solid and well-balanced introduction to probability theory and statistics. It is assumed that students who wish to do graduate work in probability theory and statistics will be taking, concurrently with this course, a measure-theoretic course in analysis if they have not already had one. These students can go on to take advanced-level courses in probability theory or mathematical statistics after completing this course.
