The research problem here in this study is associated with the motivation and commitment of employees of HLL Life Care Limited, Trivandrum. There are a variety of factors that can influence a person‟s level of motivation and commitment; some of these factors include (i) The level of pay and benefits, (ii) The perceived fairness of promotion system within a company, (iii) Quality of the working conditions, (iv) Leadership and social relationships, (v) Employee recognition (vi) Job security (vii) Career development opportunities etc. Motivated employees are a great asset to any organisation. It is because the motivation and Job satisfaction is clearly linked. Hence this study is focusing on the employee motivation and commitment within the organisation. So an attempt is made bythe researcher to find out the factors influencing job motivation and organisational commitment.
The researcher had adopted descriptive research design, which is the form of describing, and studying the areas, which needs to be due into and to find the various factors.Questionnaires were used to collect the data from the respondents. To measure the job motivation, standardised scale developed by Sultan Akhtar and Manju (1987) were used. It consists of 28 items with responses such as Very much satisfied, Satisfied, Slightly satisfied, dissatisfied, Verymuch dissatisfied. Based on the total score, through the use of mean+/- half the standard deviation the level of job motivation were calculated.
To measure the organisational commitment, standardised scale developed by C. Balaji (1982) were used. It consists of 15 items with responses such as strongly agree, agree, disagree and strongly disagree. Based on the total score, through the use of mean+/- half the standard deviation the level of organisational commitment were calculated.
After data collection, it was coded and analysed in accordance with theoutline laid for the purpose at the time of developing research plan. There is various technique of analysis. The techniques used in the present study are Simple percentage analysis, ANOVA, „t‟ test and Correlation were used.
