As per the definition, “Engineering is the profession in which knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study experience and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind.” Therefore, as one of the sciences, chemistry is clearly included in the realm of knowledge at the disposal of an engineer. The text book is written to instil an appreciation of the role of chemistry in many areas of engineering and technology and the interplay between chemistry and engineering in a variety of modern technologies.

As the complete coverage of all the topics is difficult but the authors have provided the topics with modern views of the topics which were covered in the syllabi of many institutions. As the authors have some experience in teaching chemistry for engineering students, the text book is designed for teachers with sufficient coverage of topic that makes them to adapt the topic as per student requirements.  

This text book is written to the all-possible extent by the authors by covering large number of topics and they hope that this book will serve the purpose of making a text book in chemistry course of different streams in engineering disciplines of various institutions in the country. 

Finally, the over-all approach of the text book is to address the challenges of teaching and learning when prerequisites knowledge varies from student to student. The authors have the following main goals to write the text book
