Meghalaya is a state in North East India. It was formed on 21st January 1972 by carving out two districts from the state of Assam, the United Khasi Hills, the Jaintia Hills and the Garo Hills. The tribal society of Meghalaya is undergoing a rapid change since its formation as a state. The book has divided into eighteen chapters dealing with the background of the state, climate, soil, irrigation, vegetation, agriculture, crops, transport and communication, tourism, important tourist spots of North-Eastern Region, important tourist places of Meghalaya, important tourist places in South West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, changing the scenario of tourist industry in South West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, three recognized tourist spots of Mawkyrwat area and Government plans and schemes for promoting tourism industry. All these topics have been discussed with relevant and updated data. The source materials of this book have been drawn from website, Government publications, different reports and books, magazines, journal, newspaper, including personal observations in the field. Any suggestions for improvement of the book, inclusion of new matter etc. will most thankfully be accepted.
