The book investigates the marginalization of Primitive Tribal Groups (PTG) in the state of West Bengal of India and the role of a government in improving the living condition of the two PTG in West Bengal. The book would be a more intensive study based on development among the two Primitive Tribal Groups (Lodha & Birhor) in the three administrative districts of West Bengal. 

The book is field-based; problem-focused policy-oriented applied empirical cross-sectional study conducted by the author himself in the several villages under Purulia, Bankura and Paschim Medinipur districts in South Bengal. This study has both practical, and policy relevance since Central and State Governments have sanctioned different schemes for the overall development of the PVTG’s in West Bengal.

Interestingly, the implementation of these schemes suffered a setback in various places of West Bengal. There has been very few or almost no attempt to assess the reasons behind the failures towards the implementations of these social and economic developmental inputs among the PVTG (Lodha & Birhor).

The impact of various development initiatives (land distribution, housing, cow shade, house repairing, latrine, agriculture implements, job card, solar energy, pond, domestic animal, ration card, health card, Aadhar card, pension, loan, skill development training, electricity, Solar cell, goatary, and Piggery, etc.) given and monitored by the governmental and non-governmental agencies to economically backward and socially marginalized scheduled tribes as PVTG in West Bengal.
