Climate change profoundly impacts agricultural productivity globally and locally. The interplay between weather, climate and farming conditions is always delicate. Over the past three decades, higher temperatures have been recorded in India. Further, by 2030, the mean annual temperature is predicted to rise by 1.0°C; by 2050, it will increase by 1.4°C and by 2100, it will increase by 2.4°. As a result, Indian agriculture is likely to experience increased hot days and heatwaves and longer dry spells, increasing the risk of drought. Temperature extremes, drought, and salinity are abiotic stresses limiting crop productivity and sustainability in the present agriculture systems. In the face of climate changes, there is a shift in the productivity of the crops and we need to update current practice to achieve the targeted goal for feeding the growing population.Seed is a crucial factor in increasing the output and productivity of any crop. The authors are confident that this book will be helpful not only for undergraduate and postgraduate students at agricultural universities but also for professionals, teachers, researchers, and seed technologists in achieving their aims. This book will be handy for students preparing for various competitive exams such as JRF, SRF, NET, ARS, AO (Agriculture Officer), and UG and PG entrance examinations. We aim to keep the terminology simple, the coverage current, and the majority of the material organized in a tabular manner to aid memory retention. We are convinced that students will find this book helpful in keeping their knowledge up to date while preparing for competitive assessments because it has been created with the most recent material. It would also benefit those participating in seed production programmes in the public and private sectors and researchers.
