The present book Economic Utility of the aquatic plants is the outcome of my D.Sc. research work on aquatic and semi aquatic angiosperms of Jharkhand.
The field work as well as laboratory experiments conducted in the Research Laboratory of University, Department of Botany, Ranchi University, Ranchi. Water bodies of the different districts of Jharkhand were visited in regular intervals for the collection of aquatic and semi aquatic plant species in order to know their utility .
During recent days these aquatic plants are proved as more productive than conventional terrestrial crops. This extremely productive crop does not require any tillage, fertilizers, seeds, or care. A study conducted during the year 1994- 2019 in parts of the Jharkhand revealed that these plants can be used for making biogas, bio- fertilizers, fodder, as fish feed, and several plant based industries. Beside these plants are the source of a number of chemicals, which has immense medicinal value. Several species of aquatic plants are used as food. Many of these plants are sold in the urban vegetable market for its important food values, as vegetable or as medicine.
The analysis of compost prepared out of Eichhornia crassipes has been analyzed in the Soil Science Laboratory of Indian Institute of Forest Productivity, Lalgutwa, Ranchi.
The uses of aquatic and semi aquatic plants will increase the income generation among the rural mass. The compost prepare out of Eicchornia can act as organic manure and control the menace of the same.
To the best of my knowledge, this work is original. References earlier works have been duly acknowledged.
